Hi this is Graham Foster welcoming you to the latest edition of
DreamBodyNow News.


A couple of days ago I was reading a very interesting article about
How Soya Milk can help you with your diet and significantly lower
Your cholesterol which would I am sure be a good thing For all of us.
This is a short summary of the article but I have decided to put together
a short report together on this subject hopefully For launch next week
or possibly the week after as I feel it is so important .

Anyway onto this weeks article.

“ Cholesterol And Soya The Facts Revealed “

Intensive research has shown that a daily intake of 25-30g
Of Soya Protein or the equivalent of 3 glasses of a good quality
Soya milk , an excellent form of soya protein can in most cases
significantly reduce blood cholesterol in most people,
when consumed as part of diet low in saturated fat

Of course these effects will vary from person to person but there is
little doubt of the benefical effects of soya protein to lower cholesterol
and general health improvement.

For a majority of people changes to diet including the use
of soya milk combined with an increase in regular exercise
can reduce total cholesterol levels by as much as 20%

Based on current statistics this can reduce your risk of a heart attack by as
much as 30-40% of course as with everything to do with the human body
some people may still need to use medication to treat their cholesterol levels

For those unfamiliar with Soya Milk it has typically a shelf life of up to 12
Months and can be used as a direct replacement for dairy milk .

It is similar In appearance and taste to dairy milk and would be just as tasty on your favourite Breakfast cereal as dairy milk. Some varieties of Soya Milk may have added Vitamins and Calcium giving additional benefits especially the younger person.

In addition to using Soya Milk there are an increasing range of Soya Milk
Products such as cream , dairy free desserts , dairy free milk shakes and yoghurts And in most instances the Soya alternative can be used as a direct replacement for the dairy product .

In addition to its health giving properties Soya Milk can be used by Vegetarians And Vegans and additionally for those who experience a intolerance or allergic reaction to cows milk the majority can tolerate soya protein as a viable alternative for those who cannot tolerate lactose (a sugar found in milk ) most soya milks are also suitable.

As you can see it may not be something many of you have ever even considered I know I for one will be testing these claims and reporting back to our readers Of Dreambody Now. In addition I will be compiling a report including A few recipe ideas for you all to get the full benefits. This weeks question comes from Betty in Georgia, USA.

"My daughter wants me to join her gym and workout with her but
I don't want to get big muscles, please can you advise me
Coach David?"

OK Betty, great question. I used to manage a ladies gym and
this was one of the most common concerns amongst new members.

However, rest assured you CAN work out in a gym without
getting big muscles. In fact it would be more of a problem
if you actually wanted big muscles because that takes a
lot of hard work and commitment and it's more than most
people are prepared or able to give.

Anyway - Let me give you a simple 'rule of thumb' to follow:

- To get big muscles use heavy weight and fewer repetitions

- To get toned muscles and a 'leaner figure' use lighter
weights and do more repetitions.

To build big muscles = Pick a weight that you can only do say
8 - 10 repetitions (reps) of each exercise

For lean toned muscles = Pick a weight where you can do 20 - 24
repetitions.

As the weeks pass you will be able to increase the weight but
not to the level that will give you big muscles.

This brings up another question:

What size weight should you lift?

Well, if you can't do 20 - 24 reps then the weight is too
heavy but if you get to 24 and you could easily do more,
then the weight is too light - it's that simple.

So Betty, keep the weights light and you will do fine.
Remember though that there will be qualified trainers at the
gym and they are there to help you. Tell them what you want
to achieve and also any worries you have and they will
take care of you.

Footnote: Don't be afraid to ask the trainers for help
whenever you are not sure - It is their job to help you and
that is what they are paid for!

Here's this week's delicious and healthy recipe from our
resident cook, Josette Gigon.

Beetroot, Sweet Potato and Red Lentil Soup (6 Servings)

Ingredients:

- 1 or 2 raw beetroots (chopped)
- 2 or 3 sweet potatoes (chopped)
- 2 ordinary potatoes (chopped)
- 1 cup red lentils
- 1 large red onion (chopped)
- 1 400g tin of chopped tomatoes
- 4 cloves of garlic
- 2 teaspoons of liquid vegetable bouillon
- Olive oil
- A pinch of brown sugar
- Cider vinegar
- Balsamic vinegar

Spices:

1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1 small pinch of chili powder

Herbs:

- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon basil

Method:-

Fry onion until golden brown in 1-tablespoon olive oil,
adding herbs & spices part way through
- Add sweet potatoes and toss over
- Place tomatoes in a saucepan with the garlic (pressed),
1 tablespoon of olive oil and a pinch of brown sugar
(counteracts the acidity in the tomatoes)
- Once tomatoes have reduced to half the quantity, transfer
to larger saucepan and add the onions, sweet potatoes and
remaining vegetables
- Cover with water (bouillon added). Bring to the boil and
then simmer for 50 minutes
- Remove from heat and break down vegetables a little with
an electric hand blender
- Rinse lentil thoroughly under running water for several
minutes before adding to the vegetable mix.
- Return to the boil and then simmer again for 10 minutes
(adjust consistency by adding water if necessary)
- Right at the end, add 1 tablespoon of cider vinegar (to
help with digestion) and 1/2 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar

To Serve:

- Sprinkle with fresh herbs of your choice eg parsley,
thyme etc
- Offer Pecorino or Parmesan cheese at the table
