Grahams Weekly Comments

Hi this is Graham Foster welcoming you to another exciting edition of DreamBodyNow News.

Hope you enjoyed last weeks article on the benefits of Soya let me know how you get on through my email.

This week I have an article which I think you will find interesting and maybe just a little eye opening in your quest to achieve the body you are looking for.

I have Entitled it " Fat Free Don't Always Believe What You Read "

In you efforts to reduce your weight and improve your body you will have doubtless been looking round the supermarkets checking the labels to ensure you have gotthe low fat options.

But I am afraid I am about to blow your mind with this information which might make you think again when shopping for food.

You may read on the product label an item is light or reduced in fat or even 99% Fat Free but what does that really mean?

There talking about 97% Fat Free by weight not by calories they are very significantly different.

For example if you drink 2% milk you probably think your really avoiding fat but here's the rub ..

It's only 2% fat by weight but is a whopping 38% Fat weight does not matter it's the calories that count.

Shocked !!! I bet you are I was when I first found out all this is just a marketing ploy by big business to charge you more for food on the understanding it is good for you.

If that shocked you then this will blow your mind a typical light or low fat mayonaise will be 75% fat based on the calories.

The real story is don't believe the labels without further investigation take a calculator to your store cupboard and fridge and on your next shopping trip and you will have the full and more importantly the real
story .

Until next week I look forward to bringing you more gems and hope you enjoy the rest of this issue.

Cheers for now

This week’s question comes from Kelly in New South Wales, Australia.

“Coach David, I take your advice and walk for 30 – 60 minutes each day. However, I am finding that just going out for the same walk is becoming very repetitive. Can you give me any tips to make my exercise more interesting”

“Great question Kelly and yes there are lots of things you can do. My new book will give you lots of great tips.

Note: Sorry, there has been a short delay in publishing the book because at the last moment I decided to add some additional information. However, if all now goes to plan it will be released in the next fortnight.

So here’s a tip featured in my book:

Fartlek! Yes Fartlek – It’s a Swedish term meaning ‘speed play’. Simply vary your speed. Walk for a while at a moderate pace, then at a brisk pace and then at a fast pace. Then drop back to eg a oderate pace (recovery period) to get your breath back before perhaps injecting either another period of brisk or fast pace.

You simply keep switching between different speeds (you play with speed). There’s no need to get out of breath because anytime you want to, you just drop back to a moderate (recovery) pace. Fartlek injects fun, challenge and variety into your training and I highly recommend it.

Another tip I recommend is that whenever you can, vary where you walk and what you walk over eg the terrain. I’m fortunate enough to live by the sea, so I will walk on the promenade and on both wet and dry sand. We have hills and forests near where I live so at least once a week I will walk on a forest trail or over the hills.

Obviously if your daily walk is always during your lunch break and you have no option but to walk on the side walk, then try at least to vary your routes. Perhaps at the weekend you will have time to go to the park, the forest or the beach?

Have a great week...

Coach David
